About Zankhalango Cooperative

Our story, mission, and the impact we're making in Malawi.

Our History

Zankhalango Cooperative was founded in 2012 by a group of smallholder farmers drawn from Mangochi and Dedza Districts. The Cooperative was formulated to promote collection, processing and marketing of generic resources (non-timber forestry products) and other farm enterprises.

It was officially registered on 3rd September 2021, under the Cooperative societies ACT (CAP, 47:02).

Our Governance

Structure

The Cooperative has a governance structure comprising 12 Board Members drawn from the 12 founding clubs, including:

  • Market Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Procurement Committee
  • The Secretariat

Currently, the Cooperative has a cohort of 377 members with:

Our Main Objectives

To promote collection, production, processing and marketing of natural products and other farm enterprises owned, managed and controlled through the Cooperative in business throughout and beyond Malawi.

To work in partnership with and affiliated itself to any appropriate club or other organization, charitable or non-charitable, within or outside of Malawi to facilitate and enhance the Cooperative's aims and objectives.

To ensure that its affiliates conform to production and processing standards as demanded by the international and domestic market.

To lobby other local, national and international organizations with common interest linkages.
Our Core Strategies
Engage The Cooperative works to mobilize members living in poor communities, assisting them to become engaged in sustainable development and to prioritize and effect change.
Empower The Cooperative empowers local communities through training and capacity building so that they can meaningfully participate and contribute positively towards the political and social economic development of the nation.
Support The Cooperative provides critical resources and technical expertise to local communities for the sustenance of their natural environments and improvement of their livelihoods.
